Robredo expects new admin to continue OVP's expanded medical program

Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday said she is hopeful that the incoming administration will continue the expanded/fortified medical assistance program of the Office of the Vice President (OVP), which she initiated under her watch.

During her weekly radio show, the outgoing Vice President also said that she will give more time to her Angat Buhay program once she steps down from office on June 30.

Earlier, Robredo announced the conversion of her office's Angat Buhay program into a full-fledged non-government organization (NGO) that she said will be launched on July 1.

President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s camp welcomed Robredo's plan, saying that the incoming administration needs all the help it could get to address the current economic crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Tingin ko naman to a large extent, itutuloy pa rin. Siguro ang question lang yung mga programa na hindi institutionalized kasi marami kaming sinimulan na programa na hindi bahagi ng OVP," Robredo said.

"Sana ma-institutionalize para kahit wala na kami, tuloy-tuloy pa rin," she added.

(Most likely, they will continue the programs. But the ones that are not part of the OVP face uncertainty. I hope these will be institutionalized to ensure their continuity.)

Robredo's OVP Bayanihan wrapped up the E-Konsulta services on May 31 after assisting over 58,000 people.

This project which aimed to help patients of COVID-19 and other diseases get medical attention through tele-consultation was halted to pave the way for the transition process for the next administration under Vice President-elect Sara Duterte. —LBG, GMA News
