Egypt invites Marcos to November climate change conference

President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has been invited to a climate change conference which will be held in Egypt in November.

Ambassador Ahmed Shehabeldin Ibrahim of Egypt mentioned this at a press briefing after paying courtesy call on Marcos on Monday.

"I also took this opportunity to extend the invitation of His Excellency the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to his HE to take part in November in COP27," Ibrahim said.

"This topic we talked about how just the international community to respond to the challenges of climate change and both share just probably we are different in geography and climate nature, however, we share the main concerns," he added.

Aside from that, Ibrahim said he and Marcos also discussed their views on the "prospects of developing the bilateral relations between Egypt and the Philippines since we are looking forward to develop many areas of cooperation."

"It was really fruitful and we will follow up with that and Egypt is really keen to develop the bilateral relations with the PH being one of the key spots of international relations," Ibrahim said.

During the campaign period, Marcos had expressed concern over issues on climate change, noting that this should be addressed. 

Ibrahim said Marcos would consider attending the climate change conference.

"He believes in the climate change issues and to be closely just following what would be the way forward," Ibrahim said. — RSJ, GMA News
