All is set for VP-elect Sara Duterte's inauguration

With a few hours left before the inauguration ceremony, all is set on Sunday at San Pedro Square, Davao City where Vice President-elect Sara Duterte is scheduled to take her oath as the country’s 15th VP.

Individuals who will attend the inauguration ceremony must register at 1:30 p.m. at the Davao Convention and Trade Center, according to GMA Regional TV One Mindanao.

Chairs were already set up and those who want to witness the inauguration have started arriving at the venue.

Hot and humid weather is currently being experienced in the area, Super Radyo Davao’s John Ryan Calonia reported.

Some senior citizens arrived at the venue early to personally witness the inauguration.

Guests were prohibited to bring certain items inside the venue including umbrellas, non-transparent water containers, backpacks, and tarpaulins.

Authorities said they confiscated the items for security reasons, according to Super Radyo Davao Donar Cano’s report.

The items are in custody at the entrance of San Pedro Square. Authorities said the items will be returned to the owners after the event and name tags were placed on the items to avoid confusion in claiming.

Duterte’s oath will be administered by Associate Justice Ramon Paul at 4:30 p.m. at the stage area at San Pedro Square.

President Rodrigo Duterte, President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo are expected to witness the Davao City mayor take her oath as VP.

Around 600 VIPs and six diplomats are also expected to attend the inauguration ceremony, Super Radyo Davao’s John Ryan Calonia reported.

Citing information from Davao City Chief Tourism Officer Regina Tecson, the six diplomats are from the United States, China, Japan, Romania, Germany, and South Korea who arrived in the city on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Davao City Vice Mayor-elect Melchor Quitain, Jr., congressmen representing three districts, city councilors, and some 182 barangay chairman have arrived at San Pedro Square.

The inaugural ceremony will be preceded by a thanksgiving Mass at 3 p.m. at the San Pedro Cathedral to be attended by Archbishop Romulo Valles.

Police Major General Valeriano de Leon, Philippine National Police Director for Operations, earlier said that at least 3,700 policemen will be tapped to secure Duterte's oath-taking.
