Some Manobo children flee arranged marriages to stay in school

In the mountain communities of Bukidnon and among the Manobo tribespeople, children are made to go into arranged marriages called buya.

According to Lilian Tiburcio's Stand for Truth documentary Runaway Child Brides, the buya is meant to secure for young girls food on the table and security from harm.

However, a number of them have fled from wooing grooms and their families opting instead to go to school and get an education.

To learn more about the runaways, watch the documentary which as of posting time has been viewed five million times. —NB, GMA News
