Weekly total of COVID-19 cases up 53%, daily average at 662


The Philippines logged a total of 4,634 new COVID-19 cases from June 20 to June 26, 2022, a 53% higher tally than the cases reported the previous week, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday.

Based on the DOH’s weekly case bulletin, the daily case average for the week was 662. This was an increase from the 436 recorded from June 13 to June 19, with 3,051 new COVID-19 infections.

Data also showed that 591 severe and critical cases are currently admitted in hospitals due to COVID-19 as of June 26.

Of the 2,628 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 391 or 14.9% were occupied. Meanwhile, 4,034 or 18.1% of the 22,251 non-ICU COVID-19 beds were in use.

Of the new cases recorded in the covered period, there were 14 individuals tagged as a new severe or critical case.

A total of 70,358,612 individuals or 78.17% of the government’s target population are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Of this number, 323,341 were vaccinated from June 20 to June 26.

Active tally breaches 7K

On Monday, June 27, 2022, the Health department logged additional 867 coronavirus cases — the highest single day tally reported since March.

The country’s total active infections likewise increased to 7,087 from Sunday’s 6,761, the highest since April 2022.

The number of recoveries was up by 541 to 3,634,138 while the death toll remained at 60, 518.

The highest number of infections were reported in Metro Manila in the last 14 days with 3,954 cases. It was followed by Region IV-A with 1,412 cases; Region VI with 690; Region III with 536 and Region VII with 367.

The DOH  said at least 12,778 individuals were tested, while 349 testing labs submitted data on June 26.

It also reported that the bed occupancy in the country remains at a safe level with 17.9% or 5,316 beds occupied and 24,320 vacant.—With a report from Sundy Locus/NB/LDF, GMA News
