Robin Padilla on Marcos presidency: ‘Ito yung pagkakataon para linisin niya ang pangalan nila’

Senator-elect Robin Padilla on Tuesday said incoming President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has now the chance to clean their family’s name.

The incoming senator made the remark when asked about his expectations under the Marcos presidency.

“Alam ko, batid ko, na gagawin niya ang lahat. Naniniwala ako na gagawin niya lahat para sa bayan natin,” he told reporters.

“Siyempre ilang dekada [r]in na dinungisan ang kanilang pangalan. Ito rin ‘yung pagkakataon na kanyang linisin ang kanilang pangalan,” he added.

(I know that he will do everything for our country. It has been decades that their name has been besmirched. Now is the time to clean their name.)

Further, the actor-turned-politician lauded Marcos’ decision to lead the Agriculture Department.

“Yun ang pinakamagandang desisyon na nangyari dito sa bayan na ito,” he said.

“Hindi ba tayo nahihiya niyan? Agricultural country tayo pero nag-iimport tayo ng bigas, nag-iimport tayo ng isda. Pambihira,” he went on.

(It’s one of the most wonderful decisions in this country. Aren’t we ashamed? We are an agricultural country yet we import rice and fish?)

Recently, Marcos announced that he will temporarily assume the post of Agriculture secretary when his administration takes over on June 30.

The incoming president said his administration wants to focus and prepare for the looming increase of food prices as a result of "outside forces" affecting food supply.

Marcos also said he wants to increase food production in the Philippines and restructure the Agriculture department.

During the 2022 elections campaign, Marcos  said he would recommend a price cap on rice to bring down the prices to as low as P20 per kilogram.

Marcos had said that his campaign promise of reducing the price of rice to as low as P20 per kilo is an aspiration, noting that there is a need to fix the value chain to attain that.

The value chain is the series of stages involved in producing a product or service that is sold to consumers, with each state adding to the value of the product or service. — RSJ, GMA News
