BI operates skeleton staff due to road closures ahead of Marcos inauguration

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) main office announced that it is operating on a skeleton workforce due to several road closures ahead of president-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s inauguration.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente made the announcement following the road closures and traffic rerouting imposed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) starting Sunday, June 26 as part of the security measures for Marcos’ inauguration.

"The venue for the inauguration is less than 3 kilometers from the BI Main office,” Morente said in an advisory released on Monday.

“Hence we are expecting that the road closures may affect the transportation in the area,” he added.

He said that the directive is also in pursuant to the Civil Service Commission’s memorandum allowing the adoption of alternative work arrangements.

Morente, however, assured that the immigration services will remain continuous despite the adjustment schedule.

“We are ensuring unhampered services during this period,” he said.

“However, the public may also consider going to any of our numerous offices nationwide for their immigration transactions to avoid the possible traffic congestion in the area,” he added.

Marcos’ inauguration as the 17th president of the Philippines will be held on June 30 at the National Museum in Manila.

More than 18,000 public safety and security forces will be deployed to secure Marcos' inauguration, according to the National Capital Region Police Office.
