Over 300K new registered voters expected for barangay polls — Comelec spox
About 300,000 to 400,000 eligible Filipino voters are expected to register in time for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections scheduled on December 5 this year, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Tuesday.
At the Laging Handa briefing, acting poll spokesperson Rex Laudiangco said this number would bring the total number of registered voters in the country to around 66 million.
Meanwhile, about 23 million voters aged 15 to 30 are likely to cast their voters for the upcoming SK elections, he added.
Laudiangco explained that come the December 5 polls, those aged 15 to 17 will receive one SK ballot, those 18 to 30 years old will receive both the SK and regular barangay ballot, while those aged 31 and above will receive only the barangay ballot.
The continuing voter registration is set from July 4 to 23, 2022.
Laudiangco reiterated that the resumption of voter registration has so far yielded a good turnout.
“Maganda po ang aming nakita sa paglahok ng ating kababayan across all the regions nationwide. Naging maganda po ang turnout natin, mataas ang turnout natin. Ang pinakamaganda sa aming naobserbahan ay generally peaceful and orderly ang pagpila ng ating mga kababayan,” he said.
(We have seen that our countrymen are participating well across all the regions nationwide. Our turnout is good and high. The best thing we have observed is that the voter registration is generally peaceful and the people lined up in an orderly manner.)
The Philippines made history during the May 9, 2022 national and local elections after 83% or 55,549,791 of the 65,745,512 registered voters cast their ballots—the highest turnout in the automated election history in the country. — RSJ, GMA News
