OCTA: COVID-19 positivity rates up in NCR, some provinces

COVID-19 positivity rates have gone up in the National Capital Region (NCR) and a number of provinces, the OCTA Research Group has said.

OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said on Wednesday night that the positivity rate in Metro Manila went up to 9.8% on Tuesday, July 5. It was at 8.3% on Saturday.

David said the following provinces had positivity rates higher than 10%—Antique (20.6%), Batangas (10.7%), Cavite (13.2%), Iloilo (10.1%), Laguna (17.3%), Pampanga (15%), and Rizal (16.5%).

The positivity rate refers to the percentage of people who were found positive for COVID-19 among the total number of individuals tested.

The Department of Health (DOH) said the country’s weekly COVID-19 positivity rate has increased to 6.8%, while six regions recorded a positivity rate of more than 5%.

Based on DOH’s COVID-19 national situationer released Tuesday night, the National Capital Region (NCR) logged the highest weekly positivity rate of 9.3% as of July 3.

Other regions that surpassed the 5% benchmark of the World Health Organization were Calabarzon with 8.4% weekly positivity rate, Western Visayas with 7.1%, Mimaropa with 6.4%, Cordillera Administrative Region with 5.5%, and Central Luzon with 5.4%.

The DOH reported that the national case trend showed “continuous increase” of COVID-19 infections which averaged at 1,103 cases per day from June 28 to July 4, 2022.

The Philippines on Wednesday reported 1,198 new COVID-19 infections, increasing the nationwide tally to 3,711,268. —NB, GMA News
