Teachers' group urges Sara to move opening of classes to September

A teachers’ group on Friday called on Vice President and concurrent Education Secretary Sara Duterte to defer the opening of classes to September or October.

According to a report on “24 Oras”, the Teachers Dignity Coalition (TDC) urged Duterte to move the resumption of classes to mid-September or the first week of October as there were still a significant amount of preparations to be be made for a resumption of in-person classes in August 22 and full face-to-face classes in November.

TDC Chairperson Benjo Basas also hoped the group could dialogue with Duterte to discuss the review of the K-12 program.

For its part, the Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations of the Philippines (COCOPEA) said it was willing to adjust should the Department of Education (DepEd) decide to suspend the opening of the school year in public schools to a later date.

COCOPEA also appealed to the government to expedite the go-signal for the resumption of physical classes in private schools.
