Philippines posts 2,578 new COVID-19 cases; active tally climbs to 18,990


The Philippines on Saturday registered 2,578 new COVID-19 infections, the highest daily tally since February.

The new infections brought the country’s caseload to 3,730,545, according to the Department of Health's (DOH's) latest data.

The DOH reported that active infections also rose to 18,990 from 18,090 on Friday.

The National Capital Region (NCR), meanwhile, registered 9,294 new cases in the recent two weeks, followed by Calabarzon with 5,057, Central Luzon with 2,092, Western Visayas with 2,055, and Central Visayas with 863.

More patients recovered from the viral disease bringing the recovery tally to 3,650,914, while the number of deaths remained at 60,461.

The nationwide bed occupancy rate is at 22.8%, while the number of beds occupied was 6,642, while 22,530 were vacant.

Malacañang announced earlier that the alert levels related to COVID-19 would remain in effect from July 16 until Monday when the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases would review the matter.  — DVM, GMA News
