Philippines reports 2,560 new COVID-19 cases, active tally now at 19,873


The Philippines over the weekend recorded 2,560 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the nationwide active caseload to 19,873.

Based on the Department of Health’s (DOH) website posted on Sunday, the active infections climbed from the 18,990 cases on Saturday, which registered 2,578 new COVID-19 infections.

The total number of COVID-19 infections in the country is now at 3,733,101.

Meanwhile, the recoveries in the country increased to 3,652,587, while the death toll rose to 60,641.

The bed occupancy rate in the country was also 22.8%, with 6,660 beds occupied out of the 29,223.

The National Capital Region (NCR) recorded the most COVID-19 infections in the past two weeks at 9,713. It was followed by Calabarzon with 5,420, Central Luzon with 2,261, Western Visayas with 2,071, and Central Visayas with 910.

OCTA Research Group said Sunday that the COVID-19 positivity rate in NCR was at 12.6 as of July 15.

There were five provinces that also recorded over 20% positivity rate or the percentage of people who were found positive for COVID-19 among the total number of individuals tested.

A total of 19,822 individuals were tested for COVID-19 in the country on July 16, with 351 laboratories being able to submit data, according to DOH. — RSJ, GMA News
