A look back at Presidents' first SONA
Presidents of the Philippines deliver the State of the Nation Address or SONA every year.
The SONA is an obligation under Article VII, Section 23 of the 1987 Constitution that states that “[T]he President shall address the Congress at the opening of its regular session.”
In the SONA, the President reports the state of the country, lays down the government’s agenda for the year, and may also propose to Congress legislative measures to address the administration’s goals.
Article VI, Section 15 of the Constitution prescribes that the Congress “shall convene once every year on the fourth Monday of July for its regular session.”
On July 25, 2022, Monday, against the backdrop of challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, joblessness and rising prices, the Filipinos will hear the SONA of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
