President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. Friday received the credentials of newly-designated Thailand Ambassador to the Philippines Tull Traisorat.

Traisorat presented his credentials to Marcos in a ceremony held at the Malacãnang Palace where he also vowed to help strengthen the long-standing diplomatic relations between Thailand and the Philippines.

Aside from the Thai envoy, Marcos also received the credentials of United States (US) Ambassador  MaryKay Loss Carlson, who also presented her credentials to Marcos earlier in the day.

“Today, the Ambassadors-designate of the US and Thailand, MaryKay Loss Carlson and Tull Traisorat, presented their credentials,” Marcos said.

“We look forward to continuing to strengthen our ties in pursuit of common goals and relationship-building between our peoples,” he added.

Stronger friendship

“Your excellency, since the establishment of the diplomatic ties over seven decades ago, the relations between our two countries have grown at our levels and deepening our dimensions. At the same time, our people have also nurtured a profound friendship during the most challenging times of pandemic outbreak and national calamities we never left each other side and our friendship grows even stronger,” the envoy said.

The Philippines and Thailand commemorated 73 years of bilateral relations last month. With the continuous cooperation between the two countries, Traisorat hopes to foster collaboration with both nations in all sectors “be it government to government, business to business, or people to people”.

“Given the alignment between various priorities of Thailand and the Philippines, there are great opportunities for synergy in a number of areas for instance; food security, healthcare, education, technology, and innovation,” he said.

Thailand invites Marcos to APEC anew

During his visit, Traisorat likewise reiterated the invitation for Marcos to attend the 2022 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit to be held in Thailand in November.

The President previously confirmed attendance at the event after being personally invited by Thai Chargé d’Affaires Thawat Sumitmor during a courtesy call in June prior to his inauguration.

“As founding members of ASEAN, we work closely together to promote ASEAN centrality and solidarity to address challenges on the regional and global floor, at APEC 2022 under the theme ‘opened, connect balance’ we will continue our close cooperation to work fulfilling our shared goal of an opened, dynamic, and resilient Asia-Pacific community,” the envoy said.

He said his government would pursue opportunities for synergy between the Philippines and Thailand such as in the areas of food security, healthcare, education, technology and innovation.

Prior to his designation, Traisorat was Consul-General of Thailand in Hong Kong. He also previously served as chargé d’Affaires in London.—LDF, GMA News
