Gatchalian pushes anew for mandatory ROTC for Grades 11, 12 students

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian pushed anew for a mandatory Reserved Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program for students in Grades 11 and 12.

Gatchalian, citing a survey he commissioned, said at least 77% of parents were in favor of ROTC in Grades 11 and 12.

The senator said that this might be because some of the parents also went through ROTC and Citizens Army Training (CAT) during their school days.

“Ang CAT at ROTC nagtuturo ng mahahalagang skills din at mahahalagang values. For example, discipline. Mahalaga 'yan. Pangalawa 'yung love for country. Mahalaga rin 'yan,” Gatchalian said in The Mangahas Interviews.

(CAT and ROTC teach important skills and important values. For example, discipline. That is important. Second is love for country. That is also important.)

He said it was important that the courses be taught “properly.” -Richa Alyssa Noriega/NB, GMA News
