Romualdez named caretaker of Cavite district vacated by Remulla


Speaker Martin Romualdez has been named the caretaker of the seventh district of Cavite after its representative Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla joined President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s Cabinet.

The motion to make Romualdez the caretaker of Jesus Crispin Remulla's district was made by House Majority Leader Manuel Dalipe of Zamboanga City during a plenary session on Tuesday.

Remulla's House seat was vacated after Marcos appointed him Justice secretary.

Romualdez's election as Cavite seventh district lawmaker happened after the Lower House named the chairpersons for major committees, with Elizalde Co of Ako-Bicol party-list leading the House appropriations panel and Joey Salceda of Albay retaining his post as House ways and means panel chairperson.

Marikina Representative Stella Quimbo, a member of the Minority bloc last Congress, will also sit as the senior vice chairperson of the House committee on appropriations.

Negros Occidental Representative Juliet Ferrer will chair the House committee on justice which is the panel in charge of tackling impeachment complaints filed against a sitting president, while Pasig Representative Roman Romulo will serve as the chairperson of the House Committee on Basic Education and Culture.

Tingog party-list lawmaker Yedda Romualdez, wife of Speaker Romualdez of Leyte, will serve as chairperson of the House Committee on Accounts. — BM, GMA News
