Peace org launches Philippine conflict monitoring system

Peacebuilding organization International Alert Philippines on Thursday launched a database system with information on conflicts in the country.

“Today’s event is also accompanied by the launch of the Conflict Alert 10-year database,” the group said.

According to the group, Conflict Alert is a subnational conflict monitoring system that tracks the incidence, causes, and human costs of violent conflict in the Philippines starting 2011.

The database can be used for research, development, policy-making, and peacemaking efforts, the group added.

Conflict Alert has been created by combining two separate databases Bangsamoro Conflict Monitoring System launched in 2013, and the Southern and Eastern Mindanao Conflict Database from 2015.

The system can be used as a tool for development workers, state and peace builders, scholars, researchers, journalists, diplomats, and security specialists, the group said.

Users can also check the causes and assessment of rebellion-related, inter- and intra-group, as well as community level incidents of violence.

International Alert Philippines also launched its book "Conflict’s Long Game: A Decade of Violence in Bangsamoro" on Thursday. — BM, GMA News
