Over 350 injured, more than 300K affected by Abra earthquake, NDRRMC says

The number of those injured due to the magnitude 7 earthquake that hit Abra on Wednesday reached more than 350, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Sunday.

Of the 357 confirmed injured individuals, 355 were from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), while the remaining two were from Cagayan Valley, according to NDRRMC's 8 a.m. situational report.

The injuries of some 18 individuals are also still being validated, which brings the total number of reported injured to 375.

There are also no more reported missing people, according to NDRRMC.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said it has confirmed the deaths of nine fatalities in CAR, while one is still being validated. The bodies of four persons earlier reported missing in Abra had been found on Friday, bringing the death toll to 10.

A total of 82,336 families or 314,161 individuals from 996 barangays in CAR, Ilocos Region, and Cagayan Valley were, however, affected by the quake.

Around 1,113 families or 3,891 individuals were also staying inside 42 evacuation centers, while 7,422 families or 30,400 individuals were staying outside evacuation centers.

Damage

According to NDRRMC, a total of 21,890 homes were damaged by the quake in CAR, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and National Capital Region.

Of this number, 302 were totally damaged, while 21,588 were partially damaged.

Three collapsed structures, three falling incidents, and nine landslides were also reported in Ilocos Region and CAR.

Currently, three roads are still not passable, while 149 roads and 11 bridges that were affected by the earthquake are now passable in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and CAR.

The cost of damage to 539 infrastructures is now at P414,228,000, NDRRMC said.

A total of P13,964,476 cost of damage was also reported by the Department of Agriculture, while the National Irrigation Administration reported P4,500,000.

Power, water

Meanwhile, power in all of the 48 cities and municipalities that experienced power outages were already restored.

Water in three out of four cities and municipalities that experienced water supply interruption were also restored.

The NDRRMC said a total of 27 cities and municipalities were declared under the state of calamity.

Some 54 classes and 157 work schedules were also canceled in Ilocos, Central Luzon, and CAR due to the earthquake.

So far, assistance worth P11,670,297 has been provided to the victims in Ilocos Region and CAR, according to the NDRRMC. —KG, GMA News
