PH's 24,100 new COVID-19 cases from July 25-31 higher by 24% than previous week


The Philippines recorded a total of 24,100 new COVID-19 cases from July 25 to July 31, 2022, the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.

According to the DOH’s weekly COVID-19 case bulletin, the new infections over the past week was 24% higher than the cases reported from July 18 to July 24, when the department logged 19,536 new cases.

The daily case average for the recent week also jumped to 3,443 from the 2,791 of the previous week.

A total of 44 additional verified COVID-19-related deaths were also recorded by the DOH.

Of these deaths, one occurred in June 2022, three in January 2022, two in November 2021, seven in October 2021, 20 in September 2021, and 11 in August 2021.

Data also showed that 744 severe and critical cases are currently admitted in hospitals due to the viral disease as of July 31, Sunday.

Of the 2,583 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 601 or 23.3% are occupied. Meanwhile, 6,505 or 29.5% of the 22,051 non-ICU COVID-19 beds are in use.

Of the new cases recorded in the recent covered period, there were 76 individuals tagged as new severe or critical cases. This was 0.32% of the new cases reported for the week, according to DOH.

Vaccination updates

A total of 71,700,612 individuals or 91.81% of the government’s target population are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, based on the data.

Of this number, 154,257 were vaccinated from July 25 to July 31.

Meanwhile, at least 6.7 million senior citizens or 77.87% of the target A2 population have also received their primary vaccine series.

The DOH also noted that 16,215,466 individuals have received their booster shots. Of which, 281,215 were boosted in the same period.

34,000 active cases

The Health Department reported that the country had 34,268 active cases.

The latest data from the DOH showed the Philippines monitored 3,553 fresh COVID-19 infections, bringing the total nationwide caseload to 3,780,178.

Total recoveries went up by 3,685,173 while the death toll increased to 60,737.

Metro Manila posted the most new cases for the last 14 days with 14,490 infections; CALABARZON with 9,529; Central Luzon, 4,481; Western Visayas, 2,637 and Central Visayas with 1,957.

On Sunday, July 31, 14,477 were tested for the coronavirus  while 354 laboratories submitted their results. -NB, GMA News
