Palace: August 9 not a special non-working holiday

The Office of the Press Secretary clarified on Thursday that President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has not declared August 9 as a special non-working holiday in honor of late former President Fidel V. Ramos.

The clarification came after a post circulated on social media, saying that August 9 was declared by the Chief Executive as a special non-working holiday.

"Hindi po ito totoo at walang inilalabas na anunsyo o proklamasyon tungkol dito. Maging mapanuri tayo sa mga nababasa at nakikita na social media," Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said in a post.

(This is not true and there was no announcement or proclamation regarding this. Let us be vigilant on what we read and see on social media.)

Ramos will be accorded a state funeral on August 9, according to Malacañang. Earlier, Marcos paid his last respects to Ramos at the Heritage Park in Taguig City.

Ramos' death was announced by his family on Sunday, July 31. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
