Philippines' active COVID-19 cases at 37,942, highest since April 1


The Philippines on Monday recorded 4,203 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country’s active cases to 37,942.

This is the fifth straight day that more than 4,000 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the country.

The number of active cases went up from the 37,805 monitored on Sunday and is the highest since April 1 when 39,315 were recorded.  

The new cases also brought the total nationwide caseload to 3,808,156.

Total recoveries were now at 3,709,377 while the death toll climbed to 60,837.

Metro Manila recorded the highest new cases in the last 14 days with 16,003, the DOH said. It was followed by Region IV-A with 10,229; Region III with 5,226; Region VI with 2,819 and Region VII with 2,234.

A total of 14, 122 individuals were tested for the coronavirus on Sunday, August 7 while 299 testing labs submitted their results, the department added. —NB, GMA News
