Pope Francis extends condolences to Filipinos over FVR’s passing

Pope Francis has expressed his condolences to the Filipino public mourning the death of former president Fidel V. Ramos, according to the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Tuesday.

In a letter addressed to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. shared by the CBCP, the Pope offered his "heartfelt" condolences and the "assurance" of his prayers.

“Mindful of the late president’s years of service to the nation and his efforts in fostering the values of democracy, peace, and the rule of law, I commend his soul to the mercy of Almighty God,” Pope Francis said.

“Upon President Ramos’ family and all who mourn his passing, I invoke the divine blessings of consolation and peace,” he added.

Ramos, who passed away on July 31, was laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani before noon on Tuesday.
