Walden Bello released from Camp Karingal

Former vice presidential candidate Walden Bello has been released from Camp Karingal, his executive assistant and Laban ng Masa spokesperson Leomar Doctolero said Tuesday.

“Walden has been released,” Doctolero said in a message to reporters.

Bello has been at Camp Karingal since Monday afternoon after he was apprehended at his residence in Quezon City in connection with a cyber libel case filed by former Davao City chief information officer Jefry Tupas.

Bello is facing two counts of cyber libel. Police said the bail set for each count was P48,000, for a total of P96,000.

Doctolero said they were anticipating the arrest after the Davao City Prosecutor’s Office indicted Bello last month. His motion for reconsideration was also denied by the office.

In March, Tupas filed a cyber libel complaint against Bello over the former lawmaker’s statement that she attended a party at a beach resort in Davao de Oro in November 2021 that was raided by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Tupas said she attended the event but said she left after eating and before the raid happened. — BM, GMA News
