NDRRMC: Abra quake damage to infrastructure now at P1.8B


Damage to infrastructure from the magnitude 7 earthquake that struck Abra and nearby provinces in Northern Luzon last month has reached over P1.8 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Wednesday.

In its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said the cost of 2,383 damaged infrastructure in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) now stood at P1,805,650,590.62.

A total of P851,534,504.65 damage was reported in Ilocos region; P32,029,162.81 in Cagayan; and P922,086,923.16 in CAR.

The NDRRMC also recorded P33,696,225 worth of damage to agricultural infrastructure in Cordillera, and P22,700,000 worth of damage to irrigation facilities in CAR and Ilocos Region.

A total of 35,798 houses were also affected by the earthquake in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, CAR, and National Capital Region (NCR). Of the number, 35,112 houses were partially damaged, and 686 totally destroyed.

The reported death toll remained at 11 while the number of injured individuals climbed to 615.

At least 140,617 families or 513,330 people were affected in 1,339 barangays in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and CAR.

A total of 334 displaced families or 1,034 individuals have remained in nine evacuation centers and 15,999 displaced families or 55,988 individuals are staying outside of evacuation centers.

A total of 29 cities and municipalities were declared under the State of Calamity due to the quake, the NDRRMC said. —LBG, GMA News
