Philippines’ 35,101 active COVID-19 cases, lowest in 13 days


The Philippines on Wednesday logged 2,892 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the country’s active cases to 35,101.

The total case load has reached 3,840,943, the Department of Health (DOH) has said.

The new cases on Wednesday was higher than the 2,633 logged on Tuesday. It was the second straight day that there were at least 2,500 and less than 3,000 new cases.

The active cases further dropped to 35,101 from 36,190 on Tuesday.

The active cases on Wednesday is the lowest in 13 days and marked the fourth straight day of declining active cases

In the recent two weeks, the National Capital Region (NCR) reported 15,141 new cases, followed by Calabarzon with 9,450, Central Luzon with 5,116, Western Visayas with 2,673, and Cagayan Valley with 2,199.

More patients recovered bringing the recovery tally to 3,744,669, while the death toll also increased to 61,173.

The nationwide bed occupancy rate increased to 30.9%, while the number of beds occupied were 9,003, while at least 20,150 were vacant as of Monday, August 15.

A total of 24,794 individuals were tested, while 326 testing laboratories submitted data on Tuesday, August 16. —with a report from GMA News Research/NB, GMA News
