Nat'l Security Adviser Clarita Carlos visits Kalayaan Group of Islands

National Security Adviser Dr. Clarita Carlos visited Palawan and the Kalayaan Group of Islands near West Philippine Sea (WPS), the Western Command (Wescom) said Wednesday.

"Her visit bespeaks of our common aspiration, strong stand, and unwavering dedication to protect the people and the state under our responsibility," said Wescom chief Vice Admiral Alberto Carlos said.

Dr. Carlos flew to Pag-asa Island via a military aircraft met. While there, she met with local officials of Kalayaan, military and other uniformed personnel, and local residents.

Internationally known as Thitu Island, Pag-asa is located west of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan and is part of Kalayaan Island Group, a chain of nine islets the Philippines claims as territory among the broader group internationally known as the Spratlys.

"In collaboration with our peace partners, we have done our best in ensuring that the NSA's official visit in WESCOM's Area of Responsibility is worthwhile and that there will be no stones unturned as to all security matters of utmost significance. Hence, WESCOM's commitment to national security and interests is and shall always be the order of the day," Vice Admiral Carlos said.

Aside from being a National Security Adviser, Carlos concurrently chairs the National Task Force on West Philippine Sea. —KBK, GMA News
