Senate to go on lockdown on Monday for disinfection — Zubiri

The Senate will impose a lockdown on Monday to disinfect the building after seven senators have tested positive for COVID-19, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri said Friday.

"I have instructed the Secretariat to conduct a thorough cleaning and disinfection of all Senate offices. For this reason, there will be a total lockdown of our Senate building and all Senate employees shall work from home and need not report to the Senate on Monday," Zubiri told reporters in a Viber message.

The Senate session will resume on Tuesday, August 23, he added.

The decision was made after Senate Majority Floor Leader Joel Villanueva, Senators JV Ejercito, Nancy Binay, Grace Poe, Cynthia Villar, Imee Marcos and Alan Peter Cayetano  contracted the disease.

Zubiri said several other senators were also exposed to their staff members and members of the secretariat who caught the virus. — RSJ, GMA News
