Comelec 70% ready for barangay, SK polls, says Garcia
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is 70% ready for the conduct of the 2022 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE), Comelec Chairman George Garcia said Monday.
"Kami po more or less mga nasa 70 percent na kami. Ang September uubusin namin sa pagpi-print ng balota at election-related documents pagkatapos syempre noon pagdating ng October magsisimula na kami sa pagta-transport, pagsi-ship ng ilan naming kagamitan upang naka-preposition na doon sa iba't-ibang lugar," Garcia said in a chance interview.
(We are more or less at 70% of our preparations. We will finish the printing of ballots and other election-related documents in September then we will start transporting election equipment and paraphernalia in October.)
Garcia said the Comelec would continue with the preparations despite lawmakers' calls to postpone the BSKE anew.
Earlier in the day, the National Citizens' Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL) urged Comelec to set a date on the conduct of the next BSKE as they reiterated their opposition to its postponement.
Last week, the House Suffrage and Electoral Reforms committee has voted to postpone the December 5, 2022 barangay and youth council elections to December 4, 2023.
Meanwhile, the Senate Electoral Reforms and People's Participation committee on Tuesday will tackle two measures that seek the postponement of the same. —NB, GMA News
