PNP-ACG launches investigation into personalized text scams
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said its Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) has started its investigation into personalized text scams that include subscribers' names.
In a press conference, PNP spokesperson Colonel Jean Fajardo said she was able to talk to ACG director Police Brigadier General Joel Doria about the issue.
“Nakausap natin ang director ng ACG si Police General Joel Doria. Ayon sa kanyang pahayag na patuloy po silang nagsasagawa ng imbestigasyon,” she said.

Fajardo encouraged victims of these text scams to report to authorities so that cases can be filed against the perpetrators.
According to her, it is possible that an organized group is behind the scam, because text blasts need resources.
Authorities are also coordinating with telco companies to discuss the issue. The National Telecommunications Commission earlier ordered telecommunications companies to blast warnings about the scam to their subscribers.
Globe Telecom and Smart Communications, for their part, say they have been intensifying efforts to combat the problem.
In a statement, the PNP expressed support for the Senate Committee on Public Services' investigation, which will begin on Thursday.
The PNP also backed the proposed SIM card registration law, which is expected to assist law enforcers in identifying culprits or scammers who use their communication devices to victimize unsuspecting individuals. — BM, GMA News
