Further modernization of PUP pushed

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano has pushed for the further modernization of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) as the school has established a reputation for producing graduates that are most preferred by employers.

“PUP deserves the all-out support by the House of Representatives, the Senate, and Malacañang to modernize not only because you are one of the premier universities, but because your graduates are the number one choice of employers,” Cayetano said in his speech during PUP Taguig’s 30th founding anniversary on Friday.

Online job portal JobStreet had previously reported that PUP was the top source of fresh graduate hires in 2017 based on a survey among employers.

Among the reasons cited by the employers were the PUP’s reputation and the positive attitude and work ethic of employees from the school.

Cayetano also called for reforms for all state universities and colleges (SUCs).

“Marami pa ang magagawa (ninyo) kung dadagdagan natin (ang budget). So I’m asking you and the SUC body na magtulungan tayo. Let’s work on some long-term reforms for all SUCs. Marami pa tayong pwedeng baguhin,” he said.

(PUP can do more if the budget is increased. So I'm asking you and the SUC body that we work together. Let’s work on some long-term reforms for all SUCs. More things need to be changed.)

Based on the National Expenditure Program submitted by the Department of Budget and Management to the House of Representatives, the SUCs are eyeing a total of P93,325,348,000 to sustain their operations next year. — VBL, GMA News
