45 Oriental Mindoro Mangyans fall ill due to typhoid fever

Forty-five indigenous Mangyans in Oriental Mindoro's Mansalay town had fallen ill due to typhoid fever, according to a Monday report on GMA News' Unang Balita.

The Mansalay Municipal Health Office said the victims experienced vomiting, diarrhea, and fever.

Eight of the ill Mangyans were promptly brought to hospital.

Authorities said that the community's water source was contaminated with E. coli. Thus locals were advised to boil their water before drinking.

To avoid typhoid fever, authorities advised residents to get vaccinated and maintain clean surroundings. — Alzel Laguardia/DVM, GMA News
