PNP launches crackdown vs. unauthorized security personnel in POGOs, other businesses
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said it has launched a crackdown against unauthorized security personnel serving Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) and other establishments.
In a statement, PNP chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said he made the directive in light of reports that some licensed Protective Agents allegedly participated in violent incidents involving their protectees.
“The PNP is launching a crackdown on unauthorized security personnel in POGO establishments and other industries that have become notorious for illegal activities and violence,” he said.
He directed the PNP Civil Security Group and Police Regional Offices to record and check all private Protective Agents serving as “bodyguards” to some VIPs, including businessmen who are foreigners.
Agents must be covered by a Special Duty Detail Order (SDDO) from the PNP Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies (SOSIA) that authorizes them to carry firearms and serve their protectees.
They also must be covered by an Authority to Deploy Protection Agents issued by the PNP chief or the PNP director for operations, and an SDDO issued by SOSIA.
SOSIA is tasked to conduct inspection of all private security personnel in establishments including watchmen, Security Guards, and Protective Agents, Azurin said. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
