Philippine Eagle found dead in Maasim, Sarangani


A critically endangered Philippine eagle was found dead in Maasim town, Sarangani, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Soccsksargen (DENR-Soccsksargen) reported on Monday.

In a Facebook post, DENR-Soccskargen said that the remains of the eagle was discovered by a government employee around 9:30 a.m. along the shoreline of Purok Maguid in Barangay Daliao.

The report said that the eagle was believed to be four to five hours dead when it was found.

As of press time, the eagle’s cause of death has not yet been determined.

“No tag or chips were noticed in the raptor upon the inspection. It weighed 5.6 kilograms, has a 102 centimeter length and 188 cm wingspan,” DENR-Soccskargen said.

“The carcass will be sent to the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao City for necropsy,” it added.—LDF, GMA News
