DSWD set to finish distribution of P1.5-billion cash aid for students

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is expected to finish its distribution of P1.5 billion in financial assistance to indigent students on Saturday, September 24.

According to a report on “State of the Nation” on Friday, DSWD Assistant Secretary Rommel Lopez said P200 million was left from the P1.5 billion fund initially allocated for the program.

The DSWD expects the remaining funds to all be distributed on Saturday.

It will announce an extension of the program should there be a surplus in the funding.

Data from the DSWD showed over 559,000 students have received the cash aid—more than the 400,000 who were initially expected to get the assistance. —Sundy Locus/NB, GMA News
