SC suspends ops in all courts on Monday in NCR, 3 other regions due to Karding

The Supreme Court on Sunday announced that operations in all levels of courts would be suspended on Monday, September 26, in some areas due to the threat of Super Typhoon Karding.

In a memorandum, acting Chief Justice Marvic Leonen said operations in all levels of courts in Regions 3, 4 and 5, and the National Capital Region are suspended.

“For court not mentioned, Executive Judges are granted the authority to suspend work in their respective stations following the guidelines in OCA Circular No. 51-2020 dated February 5, 2020,” Leonen added.

PAGASA raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5 over Polillo Islands; and the extreme northern portion of Quezon (the northern and central portions of General Nakar, and the northeastern portion of Infanta) in Region 4-A.

TCWS No. 4, 3, 2 and 1 were also raised in other regions.

As of 10 a.m., PAGASA said Karding's center was located 175 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon with maximum sustained winds of 195 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 240 km/h, and central pressure of 920 hPa.

At present, the super typhoon is moving westward at 20 km/h.

It also has strong to typhoon-force winds extending outwards up to 290 km from the center.

PAGASA said Karding will likely make landfall in the vicinity of the northern portion of Quezon or the southern portion of Aurora on Sunday night.

However, the state weather bureau said that the possibility of an earlier (afternoon) landfall or close approach in the vicinity of Polillo Islands is not ruled out. —Mel Matthew Doctor/KG, GMA News
