9 Luzon roads closed due to Typhoon Karding

Nine roads in Luzon remained close to traffic following the onslaught of Typhoon “Karding," the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Monday.

In an advisory, the DPWH said four roads in Central Luzon, two in Cagayan Valley, and one road each in Cordillera Administrative Region and CALABARZON were still impassable due to safety reasons, damaged pavement, landslides, flooding, and fallen electrical post caused by the strong typhoon.

The affected sections are the following:

1) Kennon Road remains closed to non-residents for safety reasons;

2) Manila North Road in Sitio Banquero, Brgy. Pancian, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte due to damaged pavement, and reoccurrence of slides;

3) Bambang-Kasibu-Solano Road, Antutot Section in Nueva Vizcaya due to landslide;

4) NRJ - Villa Sur San Pedro- Cabuaan- Ysmael- Disimungal Road, San Pedro Overflow Bridge in San Pedro, Madella, Quirino due to flooding;

The DPWH also said three roads in the region have limited accessibility.

The department earlier deployed quick response teams in the typhoon-stricken areas to restore mobility and support the government’s relief operations by conducting clearing operations.

As of 5 p.m., the weather bureau PAGASA lifted all storm signals as Karding slightly intensified while moving further away from the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).  It is expected to exit PAR Monday evening while heading westward towards Vietnam.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), five people -- all rescuers from Bulacan province -- were confirmed dead due to the typhoon.
