COVID-19 cases in NCR seen to decrease –OCTA

The number of COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) could decrease, according to the independent group OCTA Research.

OCTA research fellow Dr. Guido David said on “24 Oras” on Tuesday that the one-week growth of cases in the region stood at -8%.

David said this could possibly mean that the increasing trend in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, including Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, and Bulacan, was starting to slow down.

On September 16, OCTA reported that the one-week growth rate in NCR increased to 18% from -4%.

The OCTA research fellow, however, said they are not setting aside the possibility of at least 4,000 COVID-19 cases daily due to waning immunity, return of face-to-face classes, and the eased mobility rules.

David advised the public to continue following health protocols and to get vaccinated against the viral disease.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,347 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, while the active tally went down to 26,792 from 28,111 on Monday.

The DOH said the NCR was the region with the most cases in the recent two weeks, with 13,559 infections recorded. Calabarzon had 5,616 infections, Central Luzon with 2,836, Davao Region with 1,360, and Soccsksargen with 747. — Richa Noriega/DVM, GMA News
