Marcos to PNP: Ensure no violence in PNP facilities after De Lima incident

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to make sure that no violence will happen again in its facilities after former Senator Leila de Lima was taken hostage briefly on Sunday morning by three persons under police custody (PUPC).

“President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed Camp Crame to enforce all measures necessary to ensure that no act of violence in said facility and all other PNP detention centers shall happen again,” Press Secretary officer-in-charge Cheloy Garafil said in a statement on Sunday.

She made the remark after the three PUPCs who were trying to escape stabbed duty personnel Police Corporal Roger Agustin with an improvised knife and took De Lima as hostage.

In a tweet, Marcos said that he will speak to de Lima to check her status.

“Following this morning’s incident at Camp Crame, I will be speaking to Senator De Lima to check on her condition and to ask if she wishes to be transferred to another detention center,” he said.

PNP chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said that the former lawmaker was “safe” and is currently being checked at a hospital.

The suspects identified as Arnel Cabintoy, Idang Susukan, and Feliciano Sulayao were all neutralized by responding custodial center and PNP Special Action Force personnel.

The PNP also launched an in-depth investigation into the incident. —KG, GMA News
