2,321 new COVID-19 cases logged; active tally at 26,003


The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday recorded 2,321 new COVID-19 cases, increasing the total nationwide caseload to 3,982,965.

It is the 15th straight day that fewer than 3,000 new cases were recorded, but also the fourth straight day of more than 2,000 new cases.

Based on the DOH’s latest data, the country’s active cases decreased to 26,003 from 26,404 on Saturday. However, this is the fourth straight day that active infections were above 25,000.

The number of recoveries climbed to 3,893,452 while the death toll rose by 33 to 63,510. It is the 13th straight day with more than 30 deaths reported.

According to the DOH, the regions with the most cases in the last two weeks were the National Capital Region with 10,399 followed by Calabarzon with 5,228 and Central Luzon with 2,745.

The Health Department said at least 12,606 individuals were tested, while 320 testing labs submitted data on October 15.

It said that the bed occupancy in the country was 25.7%, with 7,336 beds occupied, while 21,263 were vacant. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
