SC sets oral arguments on barangay, SK polls postponement case on Oct. 21

The Supreme Court (SC) has set the oral arguments on the petition challenging the law postponing the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) on Friday, October 21.

In a press briefer, the high court said the oral arguments is scheduled at 3 p.m.

Earlier, veteran election lawyer Romulo Macalintal filed a petition urging the SC to order the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Office of the President to cease and desist from implementing Republic Act 11935.

The law moved the BSKE from December 2022 to October 2023.

Meanwhile, the SC directed Comelec and the Office of the President to file their comment not later than 12 p.m. on Friday.

Comelec chairperson George Garcia earlier expressed hope that the Supreme Court will immediately resolve the petition.

Garcia said Comelec has also reduced its budget request for the BSKE to P4 billion from P10 billion after Senator Imee Marcos said this was an “outrageous demand.”—LDF, GMA News
