BI foils another attempt to smuggle illegal drugs into detention facility
A Korean and an American national were apprehended for allegedly attempting to smuggle illegal drugs into the Bureau of Immigration (BI) Detention Center in Bicutan, Taguig City.
BI Warden Facility officer-in-charge Adelfo Marasigan identified the suspects as Robert Wayne Boling, Jr. and Kwon Hyeok Soo, who allegedly tried to sneak in two sachets of shabu weighing around seven grams on October 4.
"The narcotic substance was found hidden inside a Korean stew that was delivered [to] Boling," said Marasigan in a press statement on Wednesday.
It was not the first time a Korean national tried to sneak in suspected illegal drugs inside the facility.
On September 21, immigration officials nabbed Yang Heejun after they foiled his supposed attempt to bring in four grams of shabu into the detention center by putting it in a kimchi container.
According to Marasigan, BI officers started becoming suspicious of the arrested suspects when they noticed the food delivery requested by Boling was almost the same time as Yang’s back in September.
Boling reportedly confessed that he was asked to seek approval for the delivery of the food supplies and that the real owner was Kwon.
Both Boling and Kwon will face charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The detention facility, meanwhile, will be on lockdown due to the investigation of the incident, according to Marasigan. — Sundy Locus/VBL, GMA News
