President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has pledged to improve access to provinces with high tourism potential.

“Isa sa importanteng gagampanan ng pamahalaan ay ang gawing mas accessible ang mga probinsyang maganda ang potential para sa turismo,” Marcos said in his vlog on Saturday.

(One of the important roles of the government is to make the provinces that have high potential for tourism more accessible to the people.)

Marcos said that this was done in Ormoc City through the expansion of its airport runway.

He said Ormoc would be able to accommodate more commercial and international flights once its airport expansion is completed.

Mas marami rin ang papasok na pera sa probinsya,” he said.

(If it’s accessible, more people will be encouraged to visit. More money will also come to the province.)

Marcos said that a large portion of the tourism industry’s revenue comes from domestic tourism.

He then encouraged Filipinos to visit the country’s tourist destinations in order to create more jobs.

“Ang turismo ay isa sa mga kasagutan natin para mapadami ang trabaho at mapalawak ang pag-aasenso sa iba’t ibang lugar,” he said.

(Tourism is one of our solutions to increase employment and spread development in the different areas of the country.)

(For those who can afford to travel, it will be a big contribution because what you spend circulates in the local economies. We call this "bayanihan sa turismo.")

The President also said he wanted to promote the country’s tourist destinations, culture, and people to foreigners.

(To be able to show other countries what the Philippines is, how delicious the food is, and how kind, efficient, and world-class Filipinos are. That's the Philippines I know, and this is how I will introduce it to the world.) — VBL, GMA News
