Tricycle chases UV Express in Rizal over passenger dispute

A dispute over passengers between tricycle drivers and UV Express drivers came to a boil recently when a tricycle driver and reportedly a passenger chased a UV Express van on a floodway road in Rizal.

According to Jun Veneracion’s report on “24 Oras”, the video that has since gone viral showed that passengers of the UV express were terrified as the tricycle pursued the vehicle at East Side Road Floodway from Taytay to Cainta.

After the tricycle caught up with the van, a man got off and repeatedly hit the van’s rear windshield with a piece of wood.

The UV express driver stopped in front of a police station to ask for help.

Police Chief Master Sergeant Joenifer Balarm, who responded to the incident, said the two sides have already talked.

“Noong itu-turn over namin sa Taytay, ayaw na nila magpa-turnover kasi mag-aayos na ang daw sila,” Balarm said.

After the video went viral, the PNP Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) conducted a separate investigation after the video went viral.

The tricycle driver reportedly got mad at the UV express driver for picking up commuters in the area.

“Ayaw [ng mga tricycle driver] na dadaan ang UV Express, magsasakay ng pasahero papuntang Crossing, papuntang Pasig kasi naagawan sila ng pasahero,” Police Executive Master Sergeant Bria Boycee Membrere said.

According to the tricycle drivers, the local government has an order which designates specific loading and unloading areas for UV express.

“Sana maintindihan din nila ‘yung hinaing namin. Kaya kami nag-kaka-ganyan dahil wala na ho talaga kaming kinikita dahil sa ginagawa nila sa amin,” a tricycle driver said.—Mel Matthew Doctor/NB, GMA News
