NDRRMC: 73 confirmed dead, over 2 million affected by Paeng


Seventy three persons have been confirmed dead due to the onslaught of Tropical Storm Paeng, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has said.

According to its latest situation report released early Monday night, the NDRMMC said 53 of the confirmed fatalities were from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, which massive floods and landslides hit.

As of 6 p.m., the NDRRMC said there were 42 hurt and 29 missing.

The NDRRMC said 28 deaths were still up for validation, bringing the total number of reported fatalities to 101.

There were also injuries and missing which have yet to be confirmed and which brought the total of number reports received to 70 and 66 respectively.

The NDRRMC said 618,817 families or 2,039,363 individuals had been affected by the storm in 5,466 barangays.

Of the figures, 863,766 persons were displaced while 2,801 were staying at evacuation centers nationwide.

Meanwhile, a total of 4,863 houses were damaged due to the tropical cyclone. Of which 4, 105 were partially damaged while 758 were totally damaged.

The NDRMMC said 158 cities and municipalities have declared a state of calamity.

Also, 389 road sections and 82 bridge sections across the country were affected by the typhoon. Likewise, operations in nine airports and 110 seaports were also affected.

The agency reported that Paeng’s total damage to infrastructure was now at P760,341,175 with 44 damaged infrastructure.

Its damage to the agriculture sector, on the other hand, was estimated at over P1 billion with 58, 243 hectares of crops destroyed and 53, 313 farmers and fisherfolks affected. —Sundy Locus/NB, GMA News
