NDRRMC: 155 reported dead, 34 missing due to Paeng

The reported death toll due to Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) has climbed to 155, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Saturday.

In its latest situational report, the NDRRMC said that of the 155 total reported deaths, 121 were confirmed to have died while 34 are still up for validation.

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) remained to be the region with the most number of deaths at 63, followed by Western Visayas at 32 and Calabarzon at 20.

Further, 129 people were reported to be injured while 34 are missing.

A total of 4,230,460 persons or 1,209,456 families have been affected by Paeng.

Of the number, 111,910 persons or 27,965 families were staying in 1,038 evacuation centers, while 904,528 persons or 326,277 families stayed outside evacuation centers.

A total of 355,431 persons or 100,701 families have been pre-emptively evacuated.

A total of 28,031 houses were damaged — 24,970 partially and 3,061 totally — in Regions 1, 2, 3, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Regions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Caraga, BARMM and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). The amount of damage reached P17,286,000.

Meanwhile, damage to agriculture due to Paeng increased to P2.788 billion, while damage to infrastructure amounted to P4.174 billion.

A total of 520 cities and municipalities were declared under a state of calamity.

A total of P159,724,694.71 worth of assistance were provided in Regions 1, 2, 3, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Regions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Caraga, CAR and National Capital Region. —KG, GMA Integrated News
