Police looking for owner of luxury vehicle with unauthorized PNP markings
The Philippine National Police is looking for the owner of a luxury vehicle emblazoned with the PNP insignia on its door and the word "police" on the hood.
According to a report by Mariz Umali on "24 Oras" on Tuesday, after photos of the vehicle went viral the PNP insisted that they do not own such a car, worth over P4 million.
“Innova, yung commuter’s van, ngayon may Grandia. So doon lang po umiikot ang ano, ang sasakyan ng ating pulis,” said PNP Chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr.
He also advised the owner to surrender his vehicle and explain his unauthorized use of the PNP logo, which is punishable by law.
The vehicle's owner may face charges along with the possible cancellation of the vehicle's license and registration.
"This is blatant disregard of authority and existing laws. They are making it appear na sila ay miyembro ng PNP,” said PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo.
She also noted that the vehicle's markings are different from those on official police automobiles.
Meanwhile, according to the PNP Highway Patrol Group, the vehicle is registered to a private company. The PNP went to the company's address in Pasay, but they were no longer there.
Authorities said they may have sold it or transferred it to another owner.
However, the PNP is already communicating with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to help trace the owner. — Sherylin Untalan/BM, GMA Integrated News
