Philippines posts 1,031 new COVID-19 cases


The Philippines on Thursday recorded 1,031 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the cumulative tally to 4,059,369.

This came after four straight days with fewer than 1,000 new infections reported by the Department of Health.

Active cases stood at 16,900, up from 16,896 on Wednesday.

The National Capital Region had the highest number of new infections in the past two weeks, with 5,346. It was followed by Calabarzon with 2,339, Central Luzon with 1,126, Western Visayas with 624, and the Ilocos Region with 530.

The recovery tally increased to 3,977,297, with an additional 870 individuals defeating the viral disease.

The death toll rose to 65,172, with 30 new fatalities.

As of Wednesday, the national bed occupancy rate was 21.2%, with 5,765 occupied and 21,472 vacant beds.

A total of 10,191 individuals were tested on Wednesday, and 336 testing laboratories submitted data. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
