Philippines’ COVID-19 positivity rate dips to 5.7% —OCTA

The nationwide COVID-19 positivity rate dropped to 5.7% on Saturday, according to independent monitoring group OCTA Research on Sunday.

Data shared by OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David showed that the Philippines’ positivity rate — or the percentage of people who were found positive for COVID-19 among the total number of individuals tested — went down from 5.9% on January 6, to 5.7% on January 7.

This was after the Department of Health (DOH) registered 752 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, which brought the active caseload to 12,518.

The National Capital Region (NCR) remains the region with the most cases in the last 14 days with 2,359.

It was followed by Calabarzon with 1,187; Central Luzon with 562; Western Visayas with 341; and Cagayan Valley with 325 cases.

With this trend, OCTA is projecting 350 to 450 new COVID-19 infections to be recorded nationwide on Sunday. —Giselle Ombay/KG, GMA Integrated News
