PDEA seizes P1.3 million worth of shabu hidden in massage device

Authorities seized P1.3 million worth of shabu hidden in a parcel containing a massage device, Jonathan Andal reported Saturday on "24 Oras Weekend."

According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, the parcel was brought to a twenty-four-year-old woman in Dasmarinas City, Cavite in a controlled delivery operation.

She received the package and government agents promptly arrested her.

“Yung ating operatiba na nagpanggap na delivery man, hinanap yung tao, sa kanya nakapangalan… Eventually, ni-receive niya and that prompted our operatives and the arresting officer to arrest the person,” said PDEA NAIA Supervisor Gerald Javier.

The 200 grams of shabu in the massage device was sent from South Africa.

The drugs were discovered at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after it was put through an X-ray machine and sniffed by K9 dogs.

PDEA then submitted it to a laboratory test and confirmed that it contained illegal drugs.

Meanwhile, the suspect explained that she was just named the parcel's recipient. It was allegedly meant for a Nigerian national she had dated.

She had met the foreigner, who was staying in Molino, Bacoor, through a messaging app last November.

“Pagdating po ng package, ang sabi niya po sa akin, i-inform ko siya kung nasa akin na and then sabi niya po sa akin, ‘wag kong buksan, ‘wag kong galawin,” she said.

“Tapos ‘yun po, ibibigay ko po sa kanya. Magkikita po kami," she added.

She said the Nigerian national had been pestering her about the parcel since December because he said the delivery was expected that month.

She did not know that it contained shabu.

“Hindi po ako nag-iisip nang masama, ‘di ko po inisip na ganun… ’Di ko akalain na ganu’n ang gagawin niya sa akin. Nagtiwala kasi agad ako sa tao.”

The Nigerian national, who is said to be 34 years old, introduced himself as Alfred. However, the suspect couldn't get his full name, nor did have a photo of him.

The PDEA said they would investigate the matter further and contact the Bureau of Immigration regarding the alleged Nigerian national.

Narcotics officers would also discuss the matter with the South African Embassy. — Sherylin Untalan/DVM, GMA Integrated News
