The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Thursday said it is planning to use the one-stop-shop of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for SIM registration in remote areas.

At a televised public briefing, DICT Undersecretary Anna Mae Lamentillo said they are working with the Department of Justice (DOJ) on the matter.

“Nakipag-coordinate na po kami sa DOJ para nga po mag-set up nitong one-stop-shop sa malalayong lugar kung saan maaaring i-secure ng ating mga kababayan 'yung kanilang NBI clearance na puwede po nilang magamit sa pagpaparehistro ng kanilang SIM card,” she said.

On Thursday, Lamentillo said an inter-agency ad hoc committee meeting is set to be conducted to finalize the guidelines for the rollout of SIM card registration in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs).

A total of over 21.782 million of the 168.977 million subscribers nationwide have registered so far, according to Lamentillo.

Of the total registration, she said around 10.8 million are Smart subscribers, 9.1 million are Globe subscribers, and 1.8 million are Dito subscribers.

SIM card registration is set to close on April 26 and unregistered SIM cards will be deactivated after the deadline.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
